We help women who are scared of birth because they’ve never done it before, who are anxious
because of a bad experience last time, or who just want a calmer, easier, more natural birth experience.
Every birthing day is unique so the needs for a doula vary greatly between woman to woman and indeed family to family. My role as a doula is to be flexible to fit in with any situation. Types of support can vary between families especially between first time mums to that of a woman who has children already.
Birth Doula
Before Childbirth – As your doula I will usually meet with you and your birthing companion(s) at least twice before birthing day. I will then be available by phone, email or additional meetings as appropriate. The purpose is to build on the relationship to create trust and a bond before birthing.
During Labour – I will be in attendance to offer help and support to both you and your birthing companion. I will be able to make suggestions to aid relaxation, movement, positioning and breathing techniques. I will also be on hand to help the birthing companion take part in the experience at a pace that you are comfortable with. My most important role is to be fully supportive and offer continuous reassurance throughout the birthing process to enable you to have the birthing experience you set out to have.
After Childbirth – I will follow up with 1 or 2 postnatal visits to help you and the rest of your family settle in with the new addition. I will be able to provide specific networks or further information with regards to postnatal support should you or your birthing companion need such.
Postnatal Doula
Before Childbirth As your doula we will meet up prior to your birthing day to discuss what support you feel you are likely to need during the first few weeks with a new addition to your family. We will pencil in hours that may suit you for the first few weeks after birth or when your partner returns to work.
After Childbirth I will be available from the moment you need me straight after birth whether that has been arranged to be when you return from hospital, a few hours after birth or when your birthing companion returns to work after paternity leave.
I will help you adjust to being a mother whether it be for the first, second or third time.
